XTS5000 Voice Announcement

VA on an XTS is not all that great, but here is how I got it working.

  1. Open CPS, go to VIEW -> OPTIONS
  2. Click on Channel Announcement Options Tab (top left corner of the window that pops up)
  3. Check the box at bottom that reads: READ/WRITE VOICE FILES
  4. OK the windows that pop up, Close CPS
  5. Re-Open CPS.
  6. Open codeplug, hook up and turn on radio
  7. Under Radio Configuration, open the Radio Wide window
  8. Check Channel Announcement
  9. Unzip audio files to a folder somewhere
  10. In CPS, go to TOOLS -> VOICE FILES -> VOICE FILES COMPRESSION
  11. Select the folder you previously unzipped
  12. Compress (will take a couple of minutes, CPS will be unresponsive, radio will show PROGRAM MODE on screen)
  13. After that, in CPS, go to FILE -> IMPORT -> VOICE FILE & navigate to the folder you told it to put the files it converted
  14.  Select the first file (no way to import multiples at once, must be done, one by one!), import it. Repeat for all of them
  15. Open the K Deck Zone (zone 2 under Zone Channel Assignment)
  16. On that window, next to each channel name, select the audio file you want for that channel from the dropdown menu under
  17. Channel Announcement column
  18. Save codeplug
  19. Write codeplug to radio
  20. Profit and rejoice that you have a bad ass scanner that will be the envy of many
