Move a Window Thats Off Screen
Need to move a window from one screen to another, or its sitting on a non-existent screen after you unplugged the monitor? Here are a few ways to move it back...
Method 1: Keyboard
This usually works on the most recent Win versions
- Focus the app
Alt
+Tab
to select the off-screen window
- Move it with the keyboard
- Press
Al
t +Space
to open the window's system menu (you won't see it, but it's there) - Press
M
(for Move) - Use the arrow keys (usually left or right) to start moving the window (hold the key down)
- Once it starts moving, just wiggle the mouse and the window should snap over to your cursor
- Press
Method 2: Cascade the Windows
Quick and dirty catch-all
- Right click on the taskbar (or
Ctl
+Shift
+ Right Click if using W11) - Choose Cascade windows
- Boom! All windows are re-stacked on the current screen
Method 3: Reset Window Position with Snap
Windows 10/11 power move. This will snap the window to the current screen, aligned left or right
- Focus on the lost app (
Alt
+Tab
again) - Hit
Win
+Left Arrow

+Right Arrow
